This year turned out a bit different than last year but still we did our best raising awareness. We had 13 dedicated people (including myself) that braved the elements (Though it wasn’t very cold this year compared to last.) . We had many friends drop off blankets and supplies for us to pass out on our candlelight walk. We loaded up with blankets, socks, and “candles” (we used battery powered lights this year because of all the trouble we had last year keeping them lit but next year I think we’ll switch back.) and hit the road. We found a shopping cart pretty close to the beginning of our walk and we used it to haul all the blankets and socks. It was considerably warmer this year compared to last and crazy enough, we had trouble passing everything out. We returned to listen to a last minute acoustic set followed by my Father who also ran sound. (Our speaker didn’t show or call so I spoke for a few short minutes.) After the music we all talked for a while and turned in for the night. The morning came early and we were all tired and sore, ready for food and our own beds. We all went to breakfast and then home. I do believe we made a few friends that night and still raised awareness. Thank you so much to The Awesome Foundation, Erika and Jed Mandel, and Patricia Carter for supporting our mission and of course everyone who participated in the SleepOut and those that helped in spreading the word.
